SCAC Men's Soccer Trio Earn USC All-American Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer student-athletes have been elected to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-American Team. Full Release

Colorado College’s Alex Wolter and Curtis Hale, along with Trinity University’s JonConnor Rule were among the 50 athletes selected. Wolter and Rule collected Second Team honors, while Hale was selected to the Fourth Team.

This marks the third time in the last three years the SCAC has had three athletes earn USC All-American honors and the 13th time since 2010 the league has produced multiple All-Americans.

Rule, a senior defender from San Antonio, Texas is making his debut on the All-American team after being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team for the second time in his career earlier this month. He was a Second Team All-Region performer in 2022 and a First Team selection this year. Rule also earned his fourth career All-SCAC award that includes his third First Team selection this season. He was named the SCAC Tournament Defensive Most Valuable Player after leading the team to its first SCAC Championship since 2018.

Rule is Trinity's 40th All-American under Head Coach Paul McGinlay, who completed his 34th season at the helm of the Tiger program. Coach McGinlay has won 571 career games at Trinity, which places him fifth in NCAA Division III history and seventh among all NCAA Divisions.

Rule helped Trinity finish the season with a 19-1-3 overall record and clinched the co-championship for the regular season of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 10-0-1 record. The Tigers went on to win the SCAC Tournament Championship to clinch a spot in the NCAA Playoffs. Trinity went on to the NCAA Third Round before being eliminated.

Wolter, a sophomore goalkeeper from New Canaan, Conn., added All-American to his decorated season after being named an All-Region First Team and SCAC First-Team selection. He was part of the CC goalkeeper tandem with Spencer Besselaar; the duo combined for second-best in the nation in goals against average. Wolter finished the year with a 7-3-2 record and racked up a 0.82 goals against average and made 30 saves.

Hale, a senior captain defender from Richmond, Va., earns his first All-American status after four illustrious years at CC. He earned All-Region First Team honors for three consecutive seasons and is a three-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. The only player in conference history to win the award three times.

Hale started all 22 matches and led the Tigers with 1,925 minutes. He racked up a career-high eight points (2g, 4a), directed the CC defense that finished second in the nation in goals-against average (1.828) and finished the season with shutouts.

Both Hale and Wolter helped lead the Tigers to their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a win in the round of 64 against Pacific Lutheran. The Tigers ended the season with a 16-3-3 record and won the SCAC regular season title for the second year in a row.

The three SCAC selections mark the, 110th, 111th and 112th individual All-American accolades in SCAC men’s soccer history.

Wolter, Hale and Rule will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Chicago, Ill., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
