HUNTER CAIN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 30th through Sunday, October 6th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Cain scored a goal in each game last weekend, leading 24th-ranked Trinity to a pair of SCAC wins over McMurry and Concordia. Cain has now scored in eight consecutive games for the Tigers and leads the team and SCAC with a career-best nine goals scored. Cain put the Tigers up 2-0 against McMurry with his second-half score to lock down Friday's home win, then he scored the game-winner in a 2-1 win at Concordia on Sunday night. On the year, Cain now is tied for the SCAC lead with 18 points on and conference best nine goals this year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior midfielder Oliver Ramirez of Colorado College led the Tigers in points over the 2-0 SCAC weekend with wins against Ozarks and Centenary. Against the Eagles, Ramirez scored late to give the Tigers an insurance goal in a 2-0 win and then returned on Sunday to score a goal and add an assist for a total of five points on the week in a 2-0 win over the Gents. Ramirez now leads the CC Tigers with nine points on the year. Senior forward Jose Aguirre of Concordia was on fire last week, leading the Tornados to a 1-1 record in a pair of SCAC fixtures. On Friday in the win over Schreiner, Aguirre registered a brace, including the game-winning goal and then added a third goal on the week in a tough 2-1 loss against Trinity. Senior midfielder Michael Grimm of Southwestern lifted the Pirates to a dramatic 3-2 win over Austin College last Friday, converting on a free kick with the game tied in the 89th minute for the win. It was his SCAC leading third game-winning goal of the season and moves Grimm into a tie for eight in the league with 10 points on the year. Senior midfielder Daniel Espinoza of St. Thomas scored the game-winning goal in the Celts 2-1 road win at Centenary last Friday. Sophomore forward Michael Wells of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs 5-0 win at Dallas last Friday. It was t his first goal of the season and his second game-winning goal in his career.
