IRVING, Texas – Third-seeded Trinity University used a wild pitch and an RBI single to earn a 4-3 upset win over second-seeded University of St. Thomas on Friday night in the second round of the 2022 SCAC Softball Championship. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a run in the top of the second as well as a run in the top of the third. Sydney Watson tallied an RBI single up the middle in the second while Abigail Miller recorded a run scoring single through the left side in the third.
- St. Thomas came back to the tie the game in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded two-run double to left field by Lindsey Gonzalez.
- The Tigers broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth thanks to a wild pitch with the bases loaded that scored Watson to make it 3-2. Trinity then took a 4-2 lead one batter later when Sammie Whitman tallied an RBI single.
- The bottom of the seventh saw the Celts cut the Tiger lead to 4-3 on a Gonzalez singe up the middle that plated Shae Montemayor. Trinity, however, was able to snuff out the rally and hold on for the win after a groundout in the next at-bat.

- This marked the debut of St. Thomas in the SCAC Softball tournament and drops the Celts to 0-1 all-time in SCAC postseason play.
