KRISTA WOLFHOPE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year runner from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 1)
Wolfhope made the most of her collegiate debut, leading the women's cross country team to a second-place finish against non-Division III schools at the UIW Twilight Opener. Wolfhope was seventh individually with a time of 15:03.7, and she helped the Tigers to an average improvement of eight seconds from last year's times.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Alejandra Ramon of St. Thomas crossed the finish line in third place at the Celt Opener, completing the two-mile course in a swift 12:54. First-year Teresa Cashen of Dallas, competing in her very first collegiate cross country meet, placed 10th at the Nicole Leman XC Inviatational. The freshman posted a time of 21:48 over the three mile course. First-year Mackenzie Combs of Texas Lutheran finished 14th overall at the Southwestern Opener and was the top Division III finisher on a challenging 5k course. Junior Malanie Gonzales of Schreiner led the Mountaineers at the Southwestern/Concordia opener, finishing the 5K race in a time of 24:31.6 - good for a 37th place finish in the 55-person field.
