NEELY BURNS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, January 20 to Sunday, January 22. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 11)
Burns had one win and two other top three finishes against Division I Incarnate Word last weekend. The first-year was first to the wall in the 400 IM in 4:29.92, touched second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.11, and negative split her 200 backstroke to finish third in 2:09.78. She also split 31.44 on the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Alexis Lee of Colorado College was a part of six wins at this weekend's CC Classic Invitational. Individually, she took top honors in both the 200 back (2:09.59) and 100 back (1:00.47) and was also a part of the winning 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay (54.90) teams. First-year Elise Samples of Southwestern won the 50 and 100 free with times of 25.84 and 54.83, respectively, in Saturday's dual meet against UT-Permian Basin. She was also a part of two winning relays, the 400 medley relay (posting a 100 back split of 1:00.62), and the 200 free relay (split of 25:59). Sophomore Madeline Vacula of Centenary claimed a pair of individual wins in the Ladies' home meet against Austin College on Saturday. She swam a season-best time in each win, posting a 2:01.37 in the 200 free and a 1:03.98 in the 100 back. She was also part of the Ladies' foursome that won the 200 medley relay (2:02.08). Junior Sammi Thiele of Austin College had three individual victories as the 'Roos defeated Centenary in the team's road dual meet on Saturday. Thiele took first in the 100 breaststroke, the 50 freestyle, and the 50 breaststroke to lead the way for AC.
