NEELY BURNS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Phoenix, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, October 28 to Saturday, November 5. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 4)
Burns had a phenomenal weekend at the Division 3 Shootout, hosted by the University of Chicago. The first-year set two school records and came within hundredths of two more. On Friday night she won the 400 IM in 4:23.46 to set a meet and school record. She followed that up with a 1:05.16 100 breaststroke to finish just .03 shy of the school record. Neely also split a 1:55.24, lifetime best split on the 800 freestyle relay.
On Saturday she led off the 400 medley relay in a lifetime best 100 backstroke time of 58.92. Neely came within .02 of the 200 breaststroke school record with her time of 2:20.73, and she finished her meet with a second place finish in the 200 IM with a school record time of 2:05.75.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Elise Samples of Southwestern helped propel the Pirates to a dual meet victory against Austin College over the weekend. She led off the winning 200 medley relay team with a 50 back time of 28.6 and won both the 200 Free (1:59.80) and the 200 IM (2:13.48). First-year Maddy Rohrer of McMurry was instrumental in the War Hawks' team victory over University of the Ozark in a dual from this weekend. She was a part of the 400 free winning relay (split 56.47) and recorded six individual victories during the two day meet, including the 200 Breast (2:39.72), 100 Free (57.21), 200 IM (2:24.02), 200 Free (2:04.25), 50 Free (26.20) and 100 Breast (1:13.68). Senior Rosie Wade of University of the Ozarks won four events for the Eagles in the weekend dual against McMurry. She took first place in the 500 free (5:45.16), 200 fly (2:28.77), 400 IM (5:04.97), 1000 free (11:49.45), and anchored the 200 free relay for the win. She is just coming back from a fractured hand.
