SAM ROSSI OF TRINTIY UNIVERSITY, a first-year golfer from Los Angeles, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, February 19 through Tuesday, February 25. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 2)
Rossi, who led the 15th-ranked Trinity men's golf team to the team title at the Space City Classic, earned medalist honors as the top individual in the tournament.
Rossi won the tournament after shooting all three rounds in the 60s, finishing eight shots ahead of the nearest competitor. He finished with a score of 203 (68-69-66) and tied for the best single-round score of the tournament with today's five-under 66. Rossi carded six birdies in today's final round, picking up three of those on his first five holes of the day and played the front nine at four-under (32).
As a team, Trinity shot a three-round total score of 859 (288-285-286) and finished four shots ahead of LeTourneau University.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Landon Chau of St. Thomas finished in third alone among the 57-player field of the Space City Classic, firing rounds of 66, 74 and 75 for a total of 215 (+2). His opening 66 tied for the low round of the event. Senior Van Miller of Texas Lutheran finished tied for 13th place with a final tally of 220 (+7) over 54 holes of the Space City Classic to lead the Bulldogs to a sixth place team finish. Senior Andrew Bennett of Centenary led the way for the Gents at the Space City Classic as he shot rounds of 76, 71 and 75 to finish in 17th place at 9-over par 222.
