LUKE FENDER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year swimmer from Jackson, Miss., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, January 10 to Sunday, January 12. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 10)
Fender had another strong showing in Saturday's meet against Southwestern. He clocked a 9:42.03 to win the 1000, and followed that up with a 4:43.35 in the 500 freestyle. Flexing his versatility, Fender split 21.92 on the 200 freestyle relay to help the 'B' squad nearly out-touch the 'A' relay team.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Sam Allen of Colorado College won two individual events and was the team's high point scorer at the CC Classic. Allen placed first in both the 100 back (53.49) and 200 back (2:00.56) and was third in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:00.27 in prelims. He also helped the team to first place finishes in the 200 medley relay (with a backstroke split of 24.3), the 400 medley relay (with a backstroke split of 53.6) and the 200 free relay (with a split of 21.7). Sophomore Oscar Mayorga of St. Thomas delivered an outstanding performance in the pool, leading his team with a pair of impressive victories in Saturday's double dual against Centenary and Austin College. Mayorga dominated the 200 freestyle, securing a first place with a remarkable time of 1:51.53. Adding to his stellar day, he contributed to the team's triumph in the 200 free relay. First-year Hunter Hedges of Centenary had an impressive weekend for the Gents in a pair of home meets against Millsaps College and then a double-dual versus Austin College and the University of St. Thomas as he tallied five individual wins and was a member of two 200 medley relay teams. Hedges claimed multiple wins in the 200 IM (2:05.54 & 2:06.46), 100 fly (56.51 & 55.28), and one in the 100 breast (1:03.50). Senior Ethan Spiller of University of the Ozarks won the 100 fly (56.44), 100 breaststroke (1:04.32) and placed second in the 100 IM (56.55) in the team's dual meet against Hendrix on Saturday.
