SOPHIA MUNOZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year runner from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets run from Friday, October 6 through Saturday, October 7. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 6)
Munoz led the Tigers at the OLLU Invite, finishing with a new PR of 23:44 for the 6k. She placed seventh individually in a field primarily composed of NAIA and DII schools, and was also the top DIII finisher in the field.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Mackenzie Combs of Texas Lutheran, in her 6k debut, led the Bulldogs with an eighth-place finish in 23:55.1 at the OLLU Saints Invite. Her performance earned her the eighth spot on TLU's all-time performance list. First-year Teresa Cashen of Dallas ran a 5k PR of 21:15 at the Old Glory Gallop hosted by Dallas Baptist University. Cashen competed against 287 athletes from all associations and divisions. Sophomore Breanna Steele of Southwestern was the Pirates' top finisher at the DBU Old Glory Gallup in Dallas this Saturday running a time of 20:11 for the 5k course. Her finish was a college PR of over a minute from her opening race of this season and even 30 seconds faster than a 3-mile race from last year.
