MACKENZIE COMBS OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year runner from New Braunfels, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 2)
Combs led the way for the Bulldogs at the Rice/Nory Hersey Invitational, finishing 33rd in a field of 78 runners who finished the 4k race. Combs was tops among Division III runners participating in the meet with a time of 16:38.0.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Teresa Cashen of Dallas placed second at the University of Dallas XC Invitational to help secure a team victory against UNT-Dallas and Goucher College. On a very technical and difficult course where slow times are a given, Cashen crossed the line with a time of 23.23.5. Senior Sophia Sanchez of St. Thomas led the team to a sixth-place finish (tops among D3 particapting instituitons) at the Rice/Nory Hersey Invitational, finishing in 34th place with a remarkable time of 16 minutes and 42 seconds, maintaining a strong pace of 4 minutes and 10 seconds per kilometer.
