EMILY ELLIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 26 through Sunday, October 2. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 5)
Ellis tied the sixth-best performance in Trinity history and a established a new career-high Saturday with 11 total blocks in the second-ranked Tigers' shutout victory over No. 24 Colorado College in Kerrville. The 11 blocks ties for the second-most in a three-set match in SCAC history.
The powerful defensive performance at the net continued as the senior pushed her total on the day to 19 blocks with eight more against the host school Schreiner. Ellis, who averaged 3.17 blocks per set on the weekend, also posted 10 kills in each match for her first career double-double as a middle blocker in the early match.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior right side Madison Weisinger of Texas Lutheran tallying 21 blocks for the Bulldogs in five matches - capping the week with a seven block performance against Centenary. The senior is currently second in the SCAC in total blocks with 59. Senior middle blocker Paige Havel of St. Thomas continued an excellent senior campaign, posting 21 total blocks (averaging 1.5 blocks per set) on the week as she and her Celt teammates picked up their first two conference wins of the 2022 campaign. Senior outside hitter Kayla Lofland of Schreiner had six blocks (0.46 per set) and 63 digs (4.85 per set) on the week for the Mountaineers.
