MADDIE FATE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior middle blocker from New York, N.Y., has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 19 through Sunday, September 25. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 4)
Fate led the second-ranked Tigers with seven blocks on a 1.17 per-set average in the team's weekend sweep of the start to SCAC play, five of which came in Saturday night's 3-0 win over the host Centenary College that collected Head Coach Julie Jenkins's 1,000th career victory at Trinity.
Fate currently leads the SCAC in blocks per set at 1.18 (45 total in 38 sets).
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defensive specialist Chloe Miller of Austin College had a strong defensive weekend, leading the 'Roos with 3.91 digs-per-set, including a career-best 35 in a five-set victory over 20th-ranked Colorado College. Graduate defensive specialist Elora Reyes of Schreiner averaged 4.75 digs per set with 57 total over the Mountaineers' three matches as the team posted a 2-1 weekend at the SCAC Group A/C #1. Senior defensive specialist/libero Jaycie Proctor of Centenary had a superb week for the Ladies, tallying 113 digs (5.65 per set), nine assists, four service aces, a kill, and five points. She posted a career-high 35 digs in a 3-2 loss to Schreiner on Sunday - the second-most in a single match in the division era (2011-present) in program history. Proctor's previous record for a single match was 31 in the season opener against Howard Payne back on Sept. 2. Senior outside hitter Maddy Schultz of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with six blocks and added 11 digs over TLU's 1-1 SCAC-opening weekend. Sophomore defensive specialist Ally Peters of St. Thomas posted 52 digs over the weekend with an impressive 4.73 digs per set average, and is now third in the conference in the category at 4.39 per set. Her stellar defensive play led the Celts to their 10th straight victory, the program's longest streak since joining the NCAA.
