EMILY ELLIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 12 through Sunday, September 18. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 3)
Ellis posted eight blocks in the Tigers' four-set victory over No. 2 Juniata College Friday night, which led to a torrid 1.63 blocks per set average for three matches in the Trinity Fall Classic last weekend. The senior landed on the all-tournament squad for the weekend as she tallied 13 kills on a .440 hitting percentage on top of the impressive defensive effort at the net.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior middle blocker Paige Havel of St. Thomas had four solo blocks and eight block assists in two matches for the first-place Celts, averaging 1.60 blocks per set. Highlighted by a stellar game against Dallas Christian, the senior middle blocker posted 21 total points on the weekend with an average of 4.2 points per set. Senior right side Madison Weisinger of Texas Lutheran had 10 blocks (1.11 per set) along the Bulldogs' front to lead TLU to a 2-1 week at the Trinity Fall Classic. Weisinger is currently ranked in fifth in the SCAC in total blocks and third in block assists. Senior outside hitter Emma White of Southwestern eclipsed the 1,000 dig mark for her career this weekend and now sits at 1,018. White averaged 2.07 digs per set this weekend and her experience was crucial to the Pirates performing well against second-ranked Juniata. Sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Kiara Liedy of Centenary had a big week for the Ladies as she played in three matches (11 sets) and set a single-match career high with 27 digs in game one of a non-conference road doubleheader at Williams Baptist on Saturday. Liedy tallied 47 digs in her three matches last week as she averaged 4.27 digs per set. She added three aces, one assist, and one kill.
