LEXI MORRIS OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Victoria, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 1)
Morris, the defending SCAC Backrow Player of the Year, picked up where she left off a season ago with 91 digs through the Bulldogs' first five matches to lead the squad to a perfect 5-0 mark over the opening weekend.
For the week, Morris averaged 5.35 digs per set (third in the country through the first weekend), helping hold opponents to a .081 hitting percentage.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior libero Nadia Kern of Trinity posted double-digit in digs in all three of the Tigers' shutout victories over nationally-ranked opponents in last weekend's Trinity National Invitational, including 18 digs against No. 6 Berry College and 13 against reigning NCAA III champion No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Kern's efforts to keep the ball in the air helped the Tigers pin their opponents to a combined .102 hitting percentage for the weekend and earned a spot on the Trinity National Invitational all-tournament team. First-year defensive specialist Devin Henry of Dallas solidified herself as the rock in the back for the Crusaders, averaging 4.21 digs per set across the first four matches of her collegiate career. Her play was particulalry instrumental in UD's five set win over McMurry as she averaged 4.80 digs per set. Senior defensive specialiast Peyton Hummel of Colorado College averaged 3.69 digs per set and was named the 2022 Pikes Peak Challenge Tournament MVP, leading the Tigers to a 4-0 mark and the tourney title. Sophomore defensive specialist Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern averaged 4.00 digs per set in her first three matches with four service aces as the Pirates started the 2022 campaign with a 2-1 mark. Sophomore defensive specialist Ally Peters of St. Thomas helped anchor a Celt back row that led to an opening weekend 3-1 mark. Recording 48 digs in four matches, and a stellar 4.00 digs per set, Peters looks to continue that success at the St. Thomas First Responder Tournament this weekend. Graduate defensive specialist/libero Elora Reyes of Schreiner had 42 digs in the Mountaineers' three matches, averaging 4.20 per set on opening weekend. Senior defensive specialist/libero Jaycie Proctor of Centenary had a superb opening weekend for the Ladies, totaling 70 digs, eight assists, five aces, and one kill in three matches (11 sets) in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament. Proctor, who only had one error in four total attacks, recorded 31 digs in the Ladies' season opener versus Howard Payne on Sept. 2, one shy of her single-game career high.
