ROSABELLA ANDRADE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Southlake, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 10 through Sunday, March 16. Andrade led the 10th-ranked Tigers to a 3-0 week that included wins over two ranked teams, upping the team's win streak to 10 consecutive matches. Andrade began the week with a 6-2, 6-1 win at line four against Occidental, clinching the match for Trinity that eventually finished as a 6-1 win. In a 6-1 win over #33 Skidmore, Andrade was the first singles match to finish as she earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at line six to put the Tigers up 2-0 at the time. The week ended with Sunday's 4-3 win over #21 Bowdoin, and Andrade was once again the match to clinch the team victory. Andrade won 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to put Trinity ahead 4-2 and seal the win.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Aspen Young of Colorado College won both of her matches at the No. 5 singles position last week. First, she defeated Lola Ungerman of Division I Marist, 7-6(5), 6-2, then closed out the weekend with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Anika Arora of 29th-ranked CalTech. Young is 5-0 this season in dual match singles play, including a 2-0 record at No. 5. Sophomore Nataly Velasco of St. Thomas helped the women's tennis team go undefeated over four matches during the week, which included clinching the 5-2 victory over Wisconsin-Superior with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at line four singles. In those four matches, Velasco went 3-1 - all at No. 4 singles. Senior Erika Synoski of Southwestern defeated the top-line player from Skidmore, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, in a third set tiebreaker as well as the number one singles player from Hendrix College, 6-2, 6-1, in straight sets to cap a 2-1 week. Junior Aria Moreni of Concordia (Texas) earned a point for the Tornados in the non-conference showdown against Occidental College. She defeated Nicole Anderson in two sets by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) on line five. First-year Lauren Adams of Ozarks posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nora Hennessy from NCAA II Quincy University at the singles No. 5 position on Sunday.
