ROSABELLA ANDRADE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Southlake, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, March 3 through Sunday, March 9. SCAC Women's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 6
Andrade won both of her singles matches to help the 10th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team to wins over #23 Gustavus Adolphus and #10 MIT last week. Andrade opened singles play with a straight-set 6-2, 6-0 win at line six to put Trinity up 2-0 at the time and set the tone for the eventual shutout of Gustavus. Trinity and MIT went down the wire in a 3-3 tie in the match, leaving just Andrade on the court in the deciding match. She won the first set but lost the second with identical 6-4 scores, then clinched Trinity's 4-3 win with a 7-5 win in the third set.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Olivia Sanchez of Austin College provided the clincher, winning her match 6-0, 6-1, to lead the 'Roos to a 4-3 conference win over McMurry. She also won her No. 2 match against Division II opponent Sul Ross 6-0, 6-0 to help Austin College to the 7-0 sweep. Senior Annie Nelligan of Ozarks posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against University of Olivet on Sunday. Sophomore Karitza Bencomo of McMurry went 1-1 on the week, which included a 7-5, 1-6, 10-5 victory on the No. 3 line in the team's 4-3 loss to Austin College on Thursday.
