BRETTE THORNTON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blockr/right side from Rockwall, Texas, has been named the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 25 through Sunday, October 1. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 5)
Thornton led the 10th-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 4-0 in SCAC play over the weekend, registering three sweeps and then finishing with a reverse sweep to defeat hosting Colorado College in the finale.
Thornton led the team in points per set this weekend (3.04) and tallied 30 kills (2.31 per set) as a middle blocker. She also led the team with 15 blocks (1.15/set) in the four matches. Thornton had 10 kills in both the Austin College and Colorado College victories for Trinity, adding six blocks in the win over Colorado College on Sunday. She hit .353 for the weekend, committing just six errors in 68 total attacks.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Cataline of St. Thomas recorded 41 kills and and averaged 4.10 kills and 4.5 points per set in three SCAC matches this week. She also tacked on three service aces as the Celts won two key matches against Southwestern to improve to 4-2 in SCAC play. Sophomore outside hitter Carolyn Dormady of Colorado College led the Tigers with 53 kills, including tying her season-high with 18 against Austin College, as the Tigers went 3-1 during an SCAC Crossover weekend in Colorado Springs. She hit an impressive .270 for the weekend. Graduate student Brooke Byer of Schreiner averaged 3.10 kills per set and hit .266 on the weekend as the Mountaineers posted a 2-1 mark in conference play. Byer also added three service aces while averaging 3.6 points per set. Junior outside hitter Tanyse Moehrig of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs in kills in both matches of their 2-0 week - sweeping through the week against Huston-Tillotson and St. Thomas. She totaled 17 kills in the two matches, averaging 2.83 per set. Sophomore right side Samantha Graham of Austin College had another strong weekend, leading the team with 2.8 kills-per-set in three matches in Colorado Springs. Graham finished the weekend with a .215 hitting percentage and added 11 digs and four block assists while totaling 28 kills.
