BAILEY MEYER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior defender from Southlake, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 8th. Meyer led Trinity to a 2-0 start in SCAC play last weekend, posting shutout victories over both Dallas and Austin College. Meyer and the Tiger defense held the two teams to two combined shots over the 180 minutes on the field, and neither of the shots was on goal. Meyer also chipped in with two goals in the win over Austin College, including the eventual game-winner. Her two goals scored is a career-high for a single game as well.
First-year goalkeeper Ella Charles of Dallas registered eight saves last week, including one save in the Crusaders, 5-0, shutout victory over Schreiner on Sunday to secure three points in the league standings. Sophomore defender Lauren Powell of Southwestern was critical on the backline for the Pirates in a pair of shutouts against St. Thomas and Centenary last weekend. Powell and the Pirates limited their opponents to just six shots and secure four important points in the SCAC standings. Sophomore defender Ashlyn Suarez of Texas Lutheran led a backline that recorded two clean sheets and only allowed six shots over 180 minutes played last weekend in wins over Centenary and St. Thomas.
