MADISON ERSOFF OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper from Shreveport, La., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 11th through Sunday, September 17th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Ersoff recorded three shutouts last week as the Ladies went 1-0-2 in a trio of home matches. Ersoff, who now owns four shutouts in her career, recorded 14 saves in the three matches, covering 270 consecutive scoreless minutes. The Ladies blanked Belhaven 1-0 on Tuesday and earned a pair of scoreless ties over the weekend, on Friday evening against Birmingham-Southern College and on Sunday versus Millsaps. Ersoff helped Centenary secure three-straight shoutouts for just the second time since the Ladies joined the SCAC prior to the 2012 season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Johnna Campbell of Southwestern continued her outstanding start to the year, posting a pair of shutouts and recording 23 saves to help the Pirates go 2-1 last week. Cambell and the Pirates blanked McMurry and Howard Payne in two victories, and she recorded 10 saves in a tight loss against UMHB. Her performance against UMHB is her third this year with 10 or more saves as she now leads the SCAC with 59 saves on the year. Junior defender Bryanna Jasso of St. Thomas anchored a Celt defense that allow just one goal last week in a 1-1 draw against Concordia. Jasso kept the St. Thomas defense organized, limited opponents’ chances in the final third and was excellent in controlling 50/50 balls. First-year midfielder Caitlin Roach of Texas Lutheran continues her growth in her first collegiate season. Roach was reliable once again in one-on-one defending in the Bulldogs 5-1 win last week against Howard Payne and her ability to play out of the back has been critical in the early season success for TLU.
