KYRA STAFFORD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Albuquerque, N.M., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 9th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Stafford led the Tiger women’s soccer team to a pair of SCAC road wins over the weekend, defeating the second and third place teams in the standings to solidify Trinity’s placement atop the table. Stafford netted the game-winner in both games this weekend, totaling three goals overall in just five shots taken. She began the weekend with the first goal of the night against Southwestern, handing the Pirates their first conference loss of the year. Against Texas Lutheran on Sunday, she also picked up the game's first goal to spark a three-goal first half for the Tigers. This season, Stafford is now second on the Trinity team with three game-winning goals among her four goals scored overall. She has also contributed five assists, placing her fourth on the Tiger team with 13 total points this year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Gabby McDonald of Centenary scored a pair of goals in a pair of Ladies’ victories last weekend. McDonald scored the opener in a 5-1 win over Austin College and then scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Dallas on Sunday. Senior forward Karson Funderburk of St. Thomas scored twice, including the game-winner in the Celts’ 3-0 win over Austin College last Sunday. First-year midfielder Jessica Robinson of Texas Lutheran scored her first career goal, the game-winner, and tallied her first career assist in the Bulldogs’ 3-0 win over Schreiner last Friday.
