LAREN GRADT OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 26th through Sunday, October 2nd. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 5)
Gradt was outstanding in the Pirates 5-1 win over St. Thomas. She scored three goals and added an assist to finish with seven points. Gradt was also strong in Southwestern’s 2-0 win over Centenary with five shots to bring her weekly total to nine. On the year, Gradt now stands tied for fifth in the league with four goals and is currently seventh with nine points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year forward Ashley Esparza of Schreiner scored the game-winning goal in the Mountaineers 1-0 win over Austin College last Sunday. Senior midfielder Haile Hernandez of St. Thomas scored in both fixtures last week for the Celts, finishing with two goals on four shots. Sophomore midfielder Alyssa Simien of Texas Lutheran continued her impressive first season with the Bulldogs scoring three goals, including two in a 2-1 win over St. Thomas. Simien is now tied for the SCAC lead with seven goals. Sophomore forward Michaela Bosco of Trinity tallied eight points on the weekend and recorded her first career hat trick against Dallas. She registered two assists in the 8-0 win over Austin College on Friday then found the back of the net three times in Sunday's 6-0 win over Dallas.
