ALEJANDRA SANCHEZ DE LA FUENTE MOLINO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Marbella, Spain, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 28. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 2)
Sanchez De la Fuente Molino took medalist honors and led Trinity to the team title at the 2023 Space City Classic Tuesday. The all-American posted a two-day total of 148 (+6), at the par-71 Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston and helped the Tigers to a one shot victory over Concordia (Texas).
Sanchez De la Fuente Molino opened Tuesday's final round on a torrid pace from the 10th team box as she posted birdies on the par-three 10th, par-four 12th and par-five 17th after making the turn at three over par. Her 71 on Tuesday was the only even round of the event. Her tourney best round settled the sophomore into a playoff with Concordia's Julia Moss - a playoff she won by parring the par-four 18th on the second attempt.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Kimberly Burch of Dallas finished in fourth alone to pace the Crusaders, firing rounds of 77 and 76 (153) to finish +11 at the Space City Classic. Junior Ryleigh Erickson of Southwestern placed fifth in the 47-player field, firing rounds of 79 and 75 to post a two-day score of 154 (+12) at the Space City Classic. Junior Trinity Le of St. Thomas charted a top 10 individual finish at the Space City Classic, finishing with a two-day total of 156 (76-80) and 14 over par to tie for seventh. Junior Sara Salido of Schreiner finished tied for 20th, along with her teammate Emmie Rhule, at the Space City Classic. Salido posted rounds of 85 and 80 to finish at 165 (+23). Senior Wynter Flores of Texas Lutheran finished tied for 22nd, leading the Bulldogs with a two-day total of 166 (85-81, +24).
