WILL SALONY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Dallas, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5. SCAC Cross Country Release (Week 6)
Competing in his first 8k of the season, Salony was the top D3 finisher out of 400 runners across multiple divisions at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. His time of 24:23.8 established a new school record, breaking his own mark by nearly 20 seconds from two years ago. Salony led his team to an eighth place finish out of 41 total teams, and his performance was also critical in achieving a new program-best team average of 25:15.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Will Shuflit of Colorado College won the Ted Castaneda XC Classic over a field of DII and DI runners. His winning time of 25:07 was 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. First-year Alexander Bozhilov of Dallas, running in his very first collegiate 8k, placed 18th with a time of 24:39 shattering the school record once again by nearly 2 minutes. Over 400 athletes competed at the DBU Old Glory Gallop in the meet mostly from athletic scholarship schools. Sophomore Gabriel Sanchez of McMurry led the War Hawk men with a 99th place finish (26:11) at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. Junior Samuel Valdez of Concordia (Texas) posted a new season-best time of 27:57 in the 8k at the Old Glory Gallop hosted by Dallas Baptist University. The time marked his best time this year in the 8k by over a minute. First-year Aidan Bedwell of Schreiner competed in the DBU Old Glory Gallup 8k over the weekend, and ran a personal best of 28:41 to lead the Mountaineers. Senior Xander Bailey of Southwestern made a joyful return to the competition field this weekend after a long battle recovering from stress fractures that kept him out his entire junior year. Exhibiting incredible patience and dedication to his rehab plan in order to get back to racing health, the senior posted a finish of 30:15 in his first race back.
