KENDALL DERIVEL OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore setter from Weslake Village, Calif., has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 7 through Sunday, October 13. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 7)
DeRivel was getting assists left and right in the Tigers' wins against St. Thomas, Austin College, and Colorado College this weekend. DeRivel totaled 75 assists across the three matches (5.77 assists per set). In the matches against St. Thomas and Austin College, Kendall had 27 assists in each match. To go along with her excellent setting, Kendall also added eight services aces. DeRivel is now fourth in the SCAC in assists per set (5.30) and second in service aces per set (0.51).
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior setter Annie Steger of Colorado College averaged 10.92 assists per set in CC's three matches, and posted 48 assists in each of the wins against St. Thomas and Southwestern. Senior setter Julia Chew of Texas Lutheran had 50 assists (5.56 per set) as the Bulldogs went 3-0, sweeping all three of its opponents, in SCAC cross-divisional play over the weekend. Junior setter Selena Cooper of Concordia (Texas) was superb as she led the Tornados in assists in all three matches at the SCAC Crossover this weekend. She had 68 total assists on the weekend, averaging 5.67 per set with a weekend high of 24 in the 3-0 sweep of Centenary.Senior setter Claire Romo of Southwestern assisted on 51 kills, averaging 4.64 assists per set for the Pirate's three matches. In Southwestern's 3-0 wins against Austin College and St. Thomas, Romo totaled 27 assists, going for 14 and 13, respectively. Romo also secured 32 digs for the week on the defensive end. Junior setter Kristi Hinze of Centenary had another impressive for the weekend in three conference matches against Schreiner, Texas Lutheran, and Concordia (Texas) in Abilene. Hinze totaled 61 assists (6.78 per set), 27 digs, five aces, and four kills. Her 26 assists against Concordia are a season-high and marks the fourth time she has topped 20 this season. Senior setter Kendall Howard of St. Thomas had 62 total assists (5.64 per set) in three conference matches over the weekend. Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry averaged 3.62 assists per set in helping the War Hawks to a 2-1 conference weekend. The team picked up hotly contested 3-2 victories over both Concordia (Texas) and Schreiner.
