ANNIKA FLORA OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior setter from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 30 through Sunday, October 6. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 6)
Flora racked up sixty-one assists over the Pirate's two games this week in nine sets played. She averaged 6.78 assists per set with a high on the week of eight assists per set in Southwestern's win over Concordia. On the defensive end, Flora digged twenty-one balls averaging 2.33 digs per set in the two matches.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior setter Madison Manning of Austin College averaged a team-best 6.33 assists-per-set in a pair of three-set conference sweeps over St. Thomas and Colorado College. Manning had 20 assists against the Celts and 18 against the Tigers, adding 2.17 digs-per-set in the two matches. Sophomore setter Kendall DeRivel of Trinity led the 21st-ranked Tigers volleyball team to a 2-1 record in New York last weekend, including a 3-1 win over #20 New York University on Saturday. DeRivel finished the weekend with 66 assists and 20 digs over the three matches, while also adding a pair of service aces against NYU. DeRivel had her highest output with 28 assists (5.60 per set) in the 3-2 win over Smith, adding 11 digs to finish with a double-double in the match. First-year setter Gaby Torres of Schreiner averaged 6.0 assists per set (30 total) while running a 6-2 offense in the Mountaineers' 3-2 loss to No. 17 Southwestern. She also added 13 digs. Senior setter Julia Chew of Texas Lutheran had 16 assists (5.33 per set) as the Bulldogs picked up a 3-0 non-conference sweep of Huston-Tillotson, the team's only match of the week. Junior setter Carli Colbert of McMurry had 10 assists (3.33 per set) and added two service aces in the War Hawks 3-0 sweep of Dallas - the team's only match of the week. Junior setter Kristi Hinze of Centenary had another big weekend for the Ladies as she totaled 45 assists, 26 digs, three kills, and a pair of aces in three conference contests at home versus Colorado College and St. Thomas. Hinze had 37 assists and 24 digs alone on Sunday in a doubleheader against the Celts including an impressive 19 assists and 17 digs in game two of the twin bill.
