JENNA RODRIGUEZ OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior libero from San Antonio, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 14 through Sunday, October 20. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 8)
Rodriguez was all over the court defensively during Trinity's two victories last weekend as the junior recorded 53 digs and averaged 7.57 digs per set (her season average is 4.37). Against Schreiner, she totaled 19 digs (6.33), however, in her best match of the weekend against Texas Lutheran, Rodriguez totaled 34 digs (8.50 digs per set) and was just five digs away from tying Trinity's school record for digs in a match, a record that she holds. During that same match, she had the set- and game-winning service ace.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior libero Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern never dropped below five digs per set this weekend, averaging 5.13 over two games played. In eight sets, Nedrow totaled forty-one digs and tied for a match-high, 25, against Texas Lutheran. In the Pirates' three-set come-from-behind victory over TLU, Nedrow served three aces as well as assisted four Pirate hitters. Senior libero/defensive specialist Faith Coldewey of Texas Lutheran had 59 digs (6.56 per set) over the Bulldogs' two conference matches this past week, including a season-high 34 in Friday's 3-1 loss to 21st-ranked Trinity. Junior libero Isabella Martinez of Concordia (Texas) was everywhere in a matchup against Southwestern as she posted a game-high 16 digs (5.33 per set) and recorded an ace in Friday night's conference match. Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led all players with 18 digs in CC's four-set win over Austin College. She added five in the three-set sweep over Dickinson, along with two service aces. Sophomore libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College had another big weekend as the 'Roos went 2-1, averaging 4.62 digs-per-set with a total of 60 digs. She had a weekend-best 26 digs in a four-set win at St. Thomas, and also added 11 service aces, including six against the Celts. Senior defensive specialist/libero Hannah Page of McMurry had 18 digs (4.50 per set) as McMurry moved to 5-4 in the SCAC Blue Division with a 3-1 victory over Dallas.
