MEGHAN GANNON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore defensive specialist/libero from Cleveland, Ohio, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 16th through Sunday, September 22nd. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 4)
Gannon led all players with 20 digs in Colorado College’s three-set sweep over St. Thomas in the SCAC opener, the second-most for her in a match this season. The sophomore averaged a league-best 6.67 digs per set on the week and also added three assists in the win.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College helped the 'Roos to a 3-0 weekend which including a pair of victories to open conference play. Kovacs twice had 20 or more digs, finishing with an average of 4.73 digs-per-set, and added nine service aces and 10 assists. Senior defensive specialist/libero Hannah Page of McMurry averaged 6.14 digs per set as the War Hawks went 1-1 over the weekend. Her 25 against Centenary on Saturday are the second-most by a SCAC player in a three-set match this season. Senior libero Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern was key to the Pirates’ defensive effort in a 3-1 win over Trinity last Saturday. In their first win over Trinity since 2018, Nedrow led both teams in digs for the match with twenty-two digs where five Pirates had double-digit digs. Nedrow was 97% on receptions with one reception error while averaging 5.5 digs per set. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kara Spice of St. Thomas averaged 3.88 digs per set, totaling 31 in the Celts’ two matches last week. First-year middle blocker Andie Lozano-Lomeli of Texas Lutheran totaled nine blocks against Schreiner on Saturday - tying for the fifth-most in a single match in program history and the most for the Bulldogs since 2022. Junior libero Jenna Rodriguez of Trinity recorded 33 total digs (4.71 digs per set) in two matches against Texas Lutheran and Southwestern last weekend. In the match against Southwestern, Jenna had 21 total digs (5.25 digs per set).
