LAURYN LEWIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore goalkeeper from Carrollton, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 9th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 6)
Lewis led Trinity to a pair of road shutouts in SCAC action against the second and third place teams in the standings last weekend. Lewis posted a shutout at Southwestern on Friday night, which marked her team-leading fourth shutout of the season. She also had a clean sheet in the first half of Sunday's game at Texas Lutheran, which was also her third shared shutout of the year. Lewis leads the Tigers with a 0.27 GAA in 675 minutes in goal this season.
First-year goalkeeper Sophia Escontrias of St. Thomas corralled seven saves in two fixtures last weekend, including posting a shutout in the Celts, 3-0, win over Austin College. First-year defender Klarissa Martinez of Texas Lutheran continued to be a lock down defender all weekend, aiding the Bulldogs to their fourth shutout of the season last Friday in the 3-0 win over Schreiner. Martinez and the TLU defense also held Trinity scoreless in the second half of a tough 3-0 loss.
