AUDREY RIVERA OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior goalkeeper from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 19th through Sunday, September 25th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 4)
Rivera stood strong in net for Schreiner over the weekend, posting a pair of shutouts, leading the Mountaineers to a 1-0-1 record in a pair of SCAC contests last week. On Friday, Rivera corralled five saves in a 2-0 win over Centenary. The win marked the first SCAC victory for Schreiner since the 2019 season. Rivera returned on Sunday to make two more saves in a 0-0 draw against St. Thomas. In total, Rivera made seven saves to help Schreiner post back-to-back shutouts for the first time since October 2017.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Penney of St. Thomas stepped in goal for the Celts against No. 9 Trinity and Schreiner, only to allow one goal in two appearances. Penne recorded 11 saves and a .917 save percentage, including securing her first shutout on the season with 10 saves against the Mountaineers. First-year defender Klarissa Martinez of Texas Lutheran but together stellar back-to-back performances in a pair of SCAC wins over Dallas and Austin College. She was a lock down defender in two clean sheets and even jumped in on the offensive side of the ball scoring the game-winning goal against Austin College. Senior defender Bailey Meyer of Trinity helped a stingy Tiger defense to a pair of shutouts and limiting opponents to just six shots in wins over St. Thomas (2-0) and Centenary (3-0).
