THEO GIVENS OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a graduate student forward from Austin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Tuesday, September 3rd through Sunday, September 8th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 2)
Givens was excellent on the pitch last weekend to keep Concordia unbeaten on the season as the Tornados went 1-0-1 on a two-game Virginia road trip. In the opener for Concordia against Christopher Newport, Givens registered a goal and an assist in a 3-3 tie and then followed that performance up on Sunday with the lone goal of the contest in a 1-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan. On the week, Givens led the SCAC with five points behind two goals and one assist and currently sits tied for sixth in the league with five points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First year midfielder Matheus Braid of Austin College had a strong week for the ‘Roos in a pair of games, finishing with 10 shot attempts, putting four on goal, and tallying his second goal of the season at home against UT-Dallas on Friday evening. Senior midfielder Hunter Booth of Centenary scored the Gents’ lone goal in their 1-1 tie against Howard Payne last Friday in the home opener. It marked the second goal of the year for Booth. Senior midfielder Vincent Luglio of Colorado College helped lift CC to its first 4-0 start since 1995, scoring a goal in both wins for the Tigers last weekend. He scored the insurance marker in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan and the lone goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Simpson. Junior forward Greyson Pinto of Southwestern scored his first goal of the 2024 season, smashing home the game-winner in the Pirates’ 2-0 win over Whitworth on Sunday. Sophomore midfielder Tony Castro of St. Thomas lifted the Celts to a 2-0 record to start the 2024 season, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over North American University and then adding as assist in a 3-0 win over Howard Payne. Castro finished the week with three points on a goal and as assist. Senior midfielder Jack Manke of Texas Lutheran was a key contributor to the Bulldogs 2-0 week in Ohio. He provided the assist on the lone goal in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 win over Capital before finding the back of the net with the game-winning marker in the 2-1 win over Otterbein on Sunday. Senior midfielder Mark Donnelly of Trinity scored twice last weekend, notching a goal in each of the Tigers’ victories, including the game-winner in a 4-0 win over Whitworth on Friday.
