GIOVANNI CASIAS OF UNIVERITY OF THE OZARKS, a first year midfielder from Keller, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 16th through Sunday, September 22nd. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 4)
Casias helped Ozarks snap a four-game winless streak with an exclamation point, netting goals in back-to-back games, lifting the Eagles to wins over Lyon and Central Baptist. In the Eagles opener last week, Casias tied the game in the 36th minute, igniting the comeback effort against Lyon, before returning on Saturday to open the scoring in a 2-1 win over Central Baptist. Casias is now tied for the team lead in goals this season with two and tied for 16th in the SCAC.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore forward Fernando Santos of Centenary broke a 1-1 tie with a goal for the Gents in their 3-1 victory over the ETBU Tigers. Santos' score wound up being the game-wining goal and is his first of the season and second of his young career. Santos found the net in the 72nd minute after ETBU had tied it roughly 22 minutes earlier. Senior midfielder Marco Casulli of Concordia scored the game-winning goal for the Tornados in a 2-1 win over Howard Payne on senior day on Senior Day. Senior midfielder Michael Grimm of Southwestern lifted the Pirates to a win in their lone contest of the week, netting the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory in the 81st minute off a free kick. Senior midfielder Hunter Cain of Trinity scored a goal and increased his season total to five, tied for the best in the SCAC, in a 3-1 win on the road against UMHB in the Tigers lone match of the weeK.
