KAITY WARD OF THE TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 12th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 2)
Ward put on a show last weekend, leading all SCAC athletes with six total points. Ward scored a goal against Cal Lutheran to help Trinity take a 2-1 lead. Ward also drew a penalty which led to a teammate scoring a game-winning goal on a penalty kick. The senior midfielder totaled four points on Sunday against East Texas Baptist with one goal and two assists. Ward is leading the SCAC with three assists on the season and is second with seven total points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Centenary junior forward Avery Gilbert of Centenary scored the game-winning goal in the Ladies' thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win on Friday night against St. Thomas in Houston. The teams battled scoreless for 90 minutes in regulation and a 10-minute overtime period until Gilbert found the net midway through the second OT to give the Ladies the road win. The goal was Gilbert's first this season and fifth of her career. She also recorded an assist in Centenary's 2-1 road win over Alcorn State on Wednesday in Lorman, Mississippi. Freshman forward Charlie Rand of Schreiner scored her second goal of the season in a 4-1 loss to Howard Payne last week. Rand now leads the team in points as a freshman. Freshman forward Samantha Hazen of Southwestern continued her torrid start to her career scoring a pair of game-winning goals and now leads the SCAC with four goals on the season. Freshman midfielder Allison Avery of Texas Lutheran scored the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs’ 2-1 win against Howard Payne last week .
