MICHAEL MEESE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman forward from Williamsburg, Va., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 19th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Meese extended his goal scoring streak to six games after recording three goals and one assist in a pair of wins last weekend. On Friday night he struck for a goal and added an assist in a 3-0 shutout victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor and then followed up that performance with two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Concordia on Sunday. It marked the second-straight week Meese has led the SCAC in points, finishing with seven and now has at least one goal in every fixture this year. Meese now leads the SCAC in both goals (7) and points (17) and is tied for second in assists (3).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Gabe Kellman of Colorado College registered six points last weekend and factored in on both game-winning goals as the Tigers earned non-conference conference victories over Austin College and Dallas. Kellman scored twice and added an assist in a 5-0 win over the ‘Roos and turned around and recorded and assist in a 3-1 win over the Crusaders. Sophomore midfielder Noah Boggus of Schreiner scored twice last week for the Mountaineers and is now tied for the team lead in goals this season. Junior midfielder Andrew Hernandez of Southwestern delivered the game-winning goal for the Pirates in a 1-0 overtime victory against Concordia last Friday. Senior defender Luis Bencomo of St. Thomas chipped in offensively in the Celts 2-1 win over Sul Ross St. last week, assisting on the opener before striking for the game-winner in the 87th minute of action. Junior forward Santiago Quinonez of Texas Lutheran scored twice in the Bulldogs’ 9-0 win over McMurry last Sunday.
