INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- In a list released last week, two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) women’s track and field athletes were selected to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships to be held on May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Colorado College’s Kendall Accetta, along with Trinity University’s Joy Areola will both vie for a National Title later this week in South Carolina. This year marks the first time since 2019 the SCAC has sent multiple female athletes to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
For each individual event contested, including the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
Accetta will be making her second NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance. The senior also qualified back in 2022. She returns this year in the same event, qualifying 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:45.83. The two-time SCAC Champion and CC program record holder in the event, Accetta earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish in a time of 10:40.21. Coincidentally, Accetta also qualified 17th for the event going into the 2022 National Championships.
Areola will make her NCAA debut after qualifying eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.20m. The three-time SCAC Champion in the triple jump, Areola is the first Trinity women’s track athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships since Jordyn White qualified in the long jump back in 2021.
