Colorado College Women Advance To SCAC Championship Game

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Second-seeded Colorado College earned a third-straight trip the SCAC title game after recording a 60-56 semifinal round win over third-seeded Schreiner University on Saturday afternoon at the 2023 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament. After losing both regular season contests to Colorado College by at least 18 points, Schreiner was able to head into the locker room tied with Colorado College at 28-28. The game was a back and forth affair as it featured 13 ties and nine lead changes. Schreiner's largest lead was eight (12-4 late first quarter) while Colorado College saw its largest lead go to five (58-53 with 23 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colorado College outshot Schreiner by a 40.7 to 34.4 percent clip. 
  • The Tigers outrebounded the Mountaineers by a 44-34 margin, including a 12-10 edge in offensive rebounds. 
  • Both teams each tallied 16 second chance points and were nearly equal in the paint. Colorado College held a slim 28-26 edge in points in the paint. 
  • Schreiner was able to turn 17 Tiger turnovers into 20 points which helped them stay in the game.

NOTABLES
  • After having never advanced to the conference championship game in its previous 14 seasons in the conference, CC will play in its third consecutive SCAC title game on Sunday. It will square off against Trinity for the third consecutive time in the championship game.
  • The CC Tigers swept the regular season series over the Schreiner Mountaineers. Both regular season meetings were decided by 18 or more points. 
  • Colorado College ran its winning streak to four games.
  • Schreiner ends its season with a 17-10 record. 
UP NEXT
Colorado College (19-7) advances to take on top-seeded and host Trinity in Sunday's championship game. This will be the third consecutive year the two have met for the conference title as Trinity defeated CC, 73-63 in 2021 and 50-45 last season.
