INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Colorado College’s James Settles and Trinity University’s Will Salony have been officially selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, as part of the full field of teams and individuals announced by the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country committee on Sunday.
Settles, a junior from Claremont, Calif., earned his way into the national meet after earning All-Region honors last weekend with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA West Region Championships, hosted by Whitworth University. The SCAC Runner-of-the-Year crossed the line of the 8k course in 24:45.0 to earn All-Region honors for the second-straight season. It marked the best finish from a CC Tiger runner at the NCAA Regional meet since Nick Hall finished eighth in 2013. Settles is the third different Tiger to earn an individual berth into the NCAA Championship meet over the last three championships, joining Tony Calderon (2019) and Josh Fry (2021).
Salony earned his spot into the national meet after finishing 17th at last weekend’s NCAA West Region Championship, crossing the line in 24:58.8. The sophomore from Dallas, Texas, and All-SCAC runner, earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season. Salony will be the first Trinity Tiger to compete as an individual at the NCAA Championship Meet since Harry Bellow ran in 2019.
Olivet College and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority are hosting the championships Nov. 19 at Forest Akers East Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. The women’s race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern, followed by the men’s race at Noon Eastern.
