ERIN CAPELL OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, April 1 through Sunday, April 7. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 6
Capell broke a 26-year old record in the shot put last Friday at the CU Invitational. She finished fifth in the event with a toss of 39'0.5", surpassing the previous school record of 38'6.75", set by Heather O'Brien in 1998, the year before O'Brien won the Division III heptathlon title. Capell's toss is the longest in the SCAC this season. She also placed 10th in the discus at the meet among mostly Division I competition with a toss of 95' 10".
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Kalia Hamilton of Southwestern, in a field of loaded competitors, threw a season's best in the hammer with a fling of 35.91 meters (117' 10"). The toss currently places her eighth in the SCAC.
