Four Programs Earn SCAC Team Sportsmanship Awards

SUWANEE, Ga. – Four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference programs were recognized by the league as the 2022-23 Winter Sportsmanship Teams in their respective sports.

The SCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted the award prior to the 2016-17 academic year in an effort to honor the team that best portrays good sportsmanship and fair play from the players and coaches during the season. The winter awards are presented in men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving.

In swimming and diving, Austin College swept the team sportsmanship honors. The ‘Roo men were the top choice with Colorado College finishing second and Southwestern University third. This marks the second consecutive honor for the Austin College men. They join the Southwestern men (2018-19 & 2019-20) as the only program in men’s swimming to win back-to-back team sportsmanship accolades.

For the women, Austin College earned top honors followed by Colorado College and Southwestern. The honor is the first in program history for the Austin College women. This year marks the third time in SCAC history one institution has taken home top honors in both men’s and women’s swimming and diving.

Colorado College swept the team sportsmanship awards in basketball for the second consecutive year and third time in the institution’s history (2019-20, 2021-22, 2022-23). For the men, this honor marks an SCAC record fifth consecutive year the Tigers have been honored by their peers. This year's recognition also marks the fifth time in program history the women have been honored, having previously been awarded in 2016-17, 2017-18, 2019-20 and 2021-22.
