Boykin lifted the Tigers to a perfect 2-0 start in SCAC play for the second-straight season after collecting victories at home over Texas Lutheran and Southwestern last weekend. Boykin averaged 20.0 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting (14-for-27) for the week, highlighted by a season-high 23 points in the win over the Pirates. The sophomore also added 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Boykin connected on a 72.7 percent clip from the free throw line and hit 44.4 percent of his attempts from deep in the two league contests.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior center Kamden Ross of Schreiner posted back-to-back double-doubles last weekend for the Mountaineers. Ross grabbed 17 boards, and poured in 14 points in a 83-76 victory against Dallas on Friday night and followed that up with 12 points and 11 rebounds in an eight point win over Austin College in Saturday. Senior guard Wesley Hooker of St. Thomas led the Celts with 21 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists in a key 67-59 win over Centenary last Tuesday. He shot a remarkable 77.8 percent from the field (7-of-9), 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-4) and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (5-of-6). First-year forward Christian Green of Trinity lifted the Tigers to a 2-0 record in SCAC play last weekend. Green averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 block per contest. In the win over Dallas for the Tigers, Green scored 22 points, added four assists, four rebounds and two steals. First-year forward Teddy Tapken of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with a career-high 18 points in a tough road loss at Colorado College last Friday. It’s the second game in a row in double figures for the freshman as he has made 14 of his last 15 field goal attempts. First-year guard Gio Gutierrez of Southwestern led the Pirates last weekend with a career-high 22 points on 6-got-10 shooting in a 12-point road loss to Colorado College on Sunday.
