KERRVILLE, Texas -- Colorado College posted its best finish since 2016, taking third place honors with a 5-2 victory over University of St. Thomas in the consolation match of the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championships Sunday morning at the H-E-B Municipal Tennis Center in Kerrville, Texas. After falling behind 2-1 following doubles play, the Tigers took victories at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles to come from behind and earn the victory over the Celts.
St. Thomas jumped in front on the strenghth of points from its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams as Anamaria Gonzalez and Alejandra Lopez and Alyssa Davila and Jenny Reynolds teamed up to post 8-1 victories over the corresponding teams from CC. The Tigers did salvage one doubles point from the No. 3 line team of Christina Heffron and Elizabeth Girian, who earned an 8-2 victory over UST's Karissa Guzman and Regina Lopez.
Once singles play started, however, Colorado College took command with Girian quickly evening the match with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Davila at No. 3. Malia Riverea followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Regina Lopez and Heffron got the Tigers within a point of victory with her 6-4 6-2 win against Gonzalez at the top line. Moments later, CC's Maddy Meister provided the clincher, defeating Alejandra Lopez, 6-4, 6-3.
Colorado College finishes the 2022 campaign with a mark of 11-12 while St. Thomas finishes at 6-10.
