Trinity University will be represented by eight swimmers, which includes multiple relays, while both Austin College and Colorado College will each send one swimmer.
Individually on the women’s side, 2024 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, sophomore Neely Burns of Trinity holds the top qualifying spot across the league, ranked first in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:21.15. Burns is also scheduled to compete in the 200-yard IM (2:02.59) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.46), ranked sixth and 11th respectively. Last year Burns turned in top eight finishes in all three events at the National Meet, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 400-IM.
In addition to Burns, Trinity is sending three other athletes to compete in individual events including senior Emma Hagan and first-years Amy Benson and Kyla Foxhoven. Hagan will be making her third-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships as an individual qualifier is ranked seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.25) and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly (55.21). Benson is making her national debut, ranked sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.54) and 11th in the 50-yard freestyle (23.28). Finally, Foxhoven, an NCAA debutant is ranked 25th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.92).
Austin College senior Sammi Thiele returns to the national stage for the second-straight year after record breaking performances at last month’s SCAC Championship. Thiele, who qualified for one event last year as a junior, returns as the sixth ranked swimmer in three events including the 100-yard backstroke (55.35), 200-yard backstroke (2:00.38) and the 200-yard IM (2:03.03).
Rounding out the individual qualifiers in the pool on the women’s side is Colorado College sophomore Alexis Lee. Lee, who is making her NCAA debut, finished second at last month’s SCAC Championships in the 200-yard backstroke with a school record time of 2:02.69 is ranked 23rd in the event.
Trinity’s Benson, Burns and Hagan will be joined by sophomore Audrey Jacobson to compete in the 800-yard freestyle relay where they are seeded 15th in the event with a time of 3:26.85. Benson, Foxhoven and Hagan will be joined by senior Caroline Myers to complete the 15th ranked 400-yard freestyle relay squad that qualified with a time of 3:26.85.
Benson, Foxhoven, Hagan and Myers qualified 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.81, while Benson, Foxhoven, Hagan and Jacobson will compete in the 400-medley relay after posting the 15th fastest qualifying time of 3:26.85.
On the men’s side, 2024 SCAC Swimmer of the Meet, senior Michael Kohl of Trinity will pace the field of SCAC individuals after qualifying for his third-consecutive national meet. Kohl, a two-time Second Team All-American in the 100-yard butterfly, qualified this year 13th with a time of 47.92. Kohl is also set to compete in the 100-yard freestyle, ranked 14th with a time of 44.35.
Rounding out the individual qualifiers on the men’s side is senior Nathaniel Early of Trintiy. Early, who is making his third-consecutive appearance as an individual at the national meet and three-time SCAC Champion in the 200-yard freestyle, qualified 14th in the event with a time of 1:38.30.
A total of 260 men and 319 women will qualify for the DIII swimming and diving championships through regular-season performances. Included in the championships participant limit is 24 men and 29 women divers.
The 2024 championships are set to take place March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Greensboro Aquatic Center and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference will host the event.
