Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Sophomore attackman Makay Hansen of Colorado College earned a spot on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Division III Team of the Week after leading the Tigers to a pair of road victories last week, including the 12-11 overtime win at No. 5 Christopher Newport University.
Hansen produced eight goals and an assist to lead the attack during the two-game trip to the East Coast.
In Friday's 18-16 victory at Southern Virginia University, Hansen matched his season high of four goals and set up another. He scored a pair of goals to help the Tigers race to a 10-3 lead, and after the Knights closed to within 15-14 early in the fourth quarter, his fourth goal restored a two-goal cushion. He also picked up three ground balls.
During Sunday's overtime victory at CNU, the program's first ever over an opponent ranked in the top five of the USILA Division III Poll, Hansen scored four goals for the fourth time this season.
He struck for the first and last goals during a 4-0 surge that Colorado College used to turn a 7-4 second-quarter deficit into an 8-7 lead early in the second half.
Hansen's fourth marker 39 seconds into the fourth quarter gave the Tigers a 10-8 lead.
Hansen now ranks second on the team with 26 goals and 32 points, and is tied for sixth with six assists.
"Our offense has become very dynamic and a lot of the credit goes to Makay," head coach Sean Woods said. "He draws so much attention as an off-ball player in front of the goal, and that it opens up the offense for our dodging players. And if an opposing defense tries to shut down our dodging players, Makay will have success finishing in the crease like he did this weekend. He is a very crafty player with a knack for scoring."
Hansen is the second CC Tiger to earn national recognition as Anders Erickson made back-to-back appearances on the USILA Div. III Team of the Week earlier in the season.
