Though not as convincing as last year's five-point victory, the CC Tigers clinched another Showdown title even before the last event of the day - Apex Legends - was complete behind team victories in Rocket League and Valorant - which were also repeat performances from a year ago. Colorado College, which also posted a runner-up in Smash, finished the 2024 event with 11 total points. Schreiner University, who took top honors in Apex Legends for the second consecutive year, followed with seven points and Concordia (Texas) finished third with five points.

Rounding out the team standings, McMurry University and Trinity University tied for fourth with four points while University of St. Thomas was in sixth alone with three points. Austin College, Hendrix College and Southwestern University finished tied for seventh with two points each as all nine participating teams posted a scoring finish in at least one of the four contested games.

This year, teams competed for league supremacy across four gaming formats: Valorant, Rocket League, Apex Legends and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Almost 200 students and coaches were on hand for this year's event, which was hosted over the course of two fun-filled days at the Esix Gaming Arena at Six Flags Fiesta in San Antonio.

The Valorant competition wrapped on Sunday with Colorado College taking gold with a 3-1 victory over Concordia (Texas) in the best-of-five final. Concordia was impressive in jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead, but CC bounced back with a dominant performance that saw the Tigers take the next three games. Southwestern defeated Schreiner, 2-1, in the bronze medal match and Austin College earned a pair of 1-0 consolation round victories over Hendrix and McMurry, respectively.

For the second consecutive year, Schreiner left no doubt with a commanding performance in Apex Legends, scoring 132 points to take the event in convincing fashion. McMurry placed second with 95 points and Hendrix took the bronze with 91 points. Rounding out the team scoring, Austin College finished in fourth with 90 points, Colorado College was fifth with 88 points, St. Thomas was sixth with 61 points and Concordia (Texas) followed with 45 points.

Although not factored in the team points totals, a Super Smash Bros. Solo competition was conducted with the top three players recognized. Earning bronze medal status was Jordan Carter of Trinity, taking the silver was Slate Stanton of Hendrix and the gold medal winner was Kyle Morairty of Colorado College.

In games that were decided on Saturday, Trinity University won its fifth straight Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team title and Colorado College earned its fourth straight Rocket League title. Click here to read a complete breakdown of Saturday's action.
