COURTNEY ZELL OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore attacker from Seattle, Wash., has been named the SCAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 12 through Sunday, April 18.
Zell was a factor at both ends of the field during Colorado College's dominating victories over Southwestern and Dallas last weekend. Defensively, Zell produced eight caused turnovers and eight ground balls to help the Tigers limit their two opponents to a combined three goals. During Saturday's 18-3 victory over Southwestern, the sophomore midfielder posted career highs of five caused turnovers and five ground balls. She also recorded a career-best four goals and five points. In Sunday's 22-0 win over the Crusaders, CC's first shutout since a 23-0 win over Marian University on March 18, 2019, Zell produced three caused turnovers and three ground balls. At the offensive end, Zell added three goals and an assist.
Zell is now tied for second on the team with eight caused turnovers and 18 ground balls. She also ranks second with nine assists, third with 20 points, and fourth with 11 goals. After starting the season with a goals-against average of 16.50 per game, the Tigers have lowered it 7.87.
