CURTIS HALE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a freshman defender from Richmond, Va., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 3rd. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 5)
Hale played all 200 minutes as Colorado College kicked off its SCAC schedule with a 3-1 victory over Texas Lutheran and a 1-1 tie against Southwestern. He helped anchor the Tigers’ defense that conceded just four shots on goal against TLU and only one against Southwestern. CC’s clean sheet against the Pirates was its third of the season. In the victory over TLU, Hale assisted on Ronan McCann’s game winner on a set piece in the 49th minute and now is tied for third on the team with three assists.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Goncalo Pernas of Dallas registered three saves in the Crusaders’ 3-2 SCAC opening victory last week against Austin College. Junior goalkeeper Matthew Shaw of Schreiner corralled one save and played all 90 minutes, posting a shutout in the Mountaineers, 3-0, victory over Centenary last weekend. Junior goalkeeper Jack Viles of Southwestern finished with eight saves in 110 minutes of action as the Pirates opened SCAC action with a 0-0 draw on the road against Colorado College last Sunday. Senior defender Jacob Galan of Trinity led a backline that shutout Centenary last Friday night. He made multiple tackles and limited the gents to just five shots total. On Sunday, Galan and the Trinity backline held St. Thomas to two goals and the senior defender stepped up to score the golden goal in double overtime.
