LEXINGTON, Ky. -- In an announcement made Monday by the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), three SCAC programs earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season.
Colorado College, University of St. Thomas (Texas) and Trinity University were three of the 231 Division III women's programs nationwide to be honored for recording a minimum combined 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
It marked the sixth year in a row, the seventh time in the last eight years and the 15th occasion overall that Colorado College earned the award. It was the fourth time Trinity has earned the Team Academic Excellence award. The Tiger program first earned the honor following the 2008-09 season, then in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014. The award for St. Thomas is its second overall and first since 2007 when the Celts were honored while a member of NAIA.
The three conference teams earning Team Academic Award recognition is the highest for the conference since 2015.
A record 1,313 teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season, topping last year’s record by almost 200 teams. 232 programs received Team Academic honors for the first time in 2020.
