DYLAN RICH OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior on the men's soccer team from Outer Banks, N.C., has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning October 28.
The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.
Rich’s commitment to community service stems from his love of soccer. As a high schooler, Rich coached youth soccer programs for his club team, Virginia Rush Soccer, mentoring kids ages five to eight and sharing his passion for the game.
At Colorado College, Rich has continued to combine his love for soccer with volunteering. Rich participated in scrimmages against the local Colorado Switchbacks Unified team, the first-ever Special Olympics Unified Soccer team of the USL (United Soccer League).
Rich was also involved with the New Student Orientation at CC, where he led first-year students in participating in a community service project for Brothers Redevelopment. This Denver-based nonprofit provides housing-related services for the region’s low-income residents.
“It was a good experience volunteering and teaching them the knowledge I know about soccer and passing it on to the next generation,” Rich said. “It was nice to feel like I was doing something for the community and my involvement.”
