Seven Teams, 10 Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its men’s and women's team and individual academic awards on Thursday.

Colorado College, University of Dallas and Trinity University had both their men’s and women’s programs receive recognition. The Southwestern University men’s team also earned All-Academic Team recognition.

The Southwestern men, led by head coach Steven Cary, posted the highest GPA among conference teams at 3.706 to garner All-Academic honors. That ranked fifth among the 137 teams in Division III to receive recognition. Colorado College, led by head coach Alex Nichols, earned team honors with a 3.67 GPA. University of Dallas, coached by Nick Schneigert, posted a 3.63 GPA this season, and Trinity University, led by head coach Emily Daum, tallied a 3.487 team GPA in also earning All-Academic recognition.  

For a team to be considered for this honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 300 teams honored by the USTFCCCA, of which 163 were women’s teams and 137 were men’s teams.

Individually, seniors Josh Fry, a Physics major and Sam Rodriguez, an Economics major, along with sophomore James Settles of Colorado College all earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team recognition.  

On the women’s side, University of Dallas, coached by Nick Schneigert, led the way among three SCAC institutions receiving recognition with a team GPA of 3.81. That mark was tied for the sixth best among the 163 teams across Division III to receive academic accolades. Colorado College, led by head coach Alex Nichols, posted a 3.808 GPA this season. The Trinity men, led by head coach Emily Daum, were also honored by the USTFCCCA as the Tigers posted a team GPA of 3.562.  

Individually, Colorado College juniors Kendall Accetta, an English and Political Science major and Clare Quinn, a Political Science major, along with senior Molecular Biology major Megan Koch and first-year Elliot Singer all earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team recognition.

Trinity University also placed two honorees on the team with senior Political Science major Abby Blackwood and junior Neuroscience major Elaine Kaster receiving recognition.

Rounding out the individual honorees from the SCAC to earn All-Academic recognition is senior Theology major Anna Wilgenbusch of the University of Dallas.

To earn individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional. There were 451 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with men accounting for 55 percent (248) and women accounting for 45 percent (203) of that total.
