Nofziger helped CC snap a five-game losing streak, leading the Tigers to a pair of wins last weekend, defeating Hardin-Simmons (95-76) and Willamette (74-73) at home. He averaged 22 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game posting his fourth and fifth double-double of the season. It marked the first time in his career his has posted a double-double in back to back contests. In the win over Hardin-Simmons, Nofziger scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and then followed that performance up with 20 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and hit the game-winning shot with five seconds remaining. On the season, Nofziger is fourth in the SCAC in both points per game (18.9) and rebounds per contest (9.1).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Jalen Cherry of McMurry was superb in lifting the War Hawks to a 107-100 win over Howard Payne last Tuesday. Cherry poured in a team-high 23 points and pulled down a game and season-high 23 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. Senior wing Justice Marmara of Ozarks led the Eagles to an impressive 69-61 win over Millsaps last Thursday, scoring a team-high 17 points and adding three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Senior center Kamden Ross of Schreiner put up a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to Whitworth in the Mountaineers only contest last week. Ross became the first SCAC athlete in men’s basketball history to hit 1,000 career rebounds when he corralled his 10th board last Thursday and currently sits a 1,005 all-time, the most in SCAC history. Junior guard Angel Johnson of St. Thomas delivered an outstanding performance in the Celts lone game of the week, defeating Pacific Lutheran, 81-65, at home on Friday night. Johnson scored 22 points on an impressive 83.3 percent shooting (10-for-12), including 66.7 percent from three-point range (2-for-3) and added six assists and two steals to showcase his play making ability to help lift St. Thomas to an 8-1 start to open the season. Senior guard Jacob Millhouse of Trinity led the Tigers to a home weekend split in the Leslie Robinson Classic Tournament, defeating Illinois College before falling to No. 17 Wisconsin Lutheran College. Millhouse averaged 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game over the two games, hitting 8-of-12 from the floor, 7-of-7 from the line, and 5-of-8 from three-point range. He began the week with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals against Illinois College, sinking 4-for-5 from three-point range.
