GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Colorado College women cruised to a 5-1 victory over University of St. Thomas in the third place match of the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Sunday afternoon at Round Rock High School. The Tigers opened with two strong wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles as Lindsay Popeo and Christina Heffron and Maddy Meister and Gigi Jensen made quick work of their opponents, taking 8-1 and 8-0 decisions, respectively. The Celts Alejandra Lopez and Ella Mullins avoided the doubles sweep with their hard-fought 8-7 (2) victory over CC's Olivia Dicks and Magdalene Gonzales at the No. 2 line.
The end courts produced quick points for the Tigers as Maddy Meister eased to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6 which was followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 line by CC's Elizabeth Girian. Needing just one more point to close out the match, Gigi Jensen was up to the task, winning her No. 4 line match 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the match for the Tigers.
Colorado College finishes the season with a 7-13 and its second consecutive third place finish. St. Thomas, which dropped a 5-2 decision to CC in last year's third-place match, closes the 2023 campaign at 6-7.
